Summary

The Staff/Sr. Staff Robotics Engineer serves as a technical authority in the development and deployment of robotic automation systems within defense manufacturing environments. This role architects advanced robotic workcells, leads cross-functional integration, and ensures compliance with reliability, traceability, and cybersecurity standards. Expertise with FANUC or KUKA robotics is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, program, and commission robotic automation systems using FANUC TP/KAREL or KUKA KRL.

  • Architect robotic cells including motion planning, payload modeling, accuracy tuning, and safety systems.

  • Model performance for machining, welding, bonding, assembly, or inspection applications.

  • Integrate robots with PLCs, safety controllers, SCADA/MES, vision systems, and secure networks.

  • Develop offline simulations and digital twins for cycle times, reach studies, and collision avoidance.

  • Lead troubleshooting and corrective actions for complex robotic and electromechanical issues.

  • Design EOAT including servo tooling, multi‑sensor assemblies, and high‑tolerance systems.

  • Maintain compliance with ISO 10218, ANSI/RIA R15.06, and defense documentation requirements.

  • Implement coding standards, change control, and versioning aligned with AS9100 and MIL‑STD.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related engineering fields.

  • Extensive experience with FANUC or KUKA robots in safety‑critical or high‑reliability manufacturing.

  • Strong background in robot kinematics, coordinate systems, motion optimization, and external axis control.

  • Expertise integrating robotics with PLCs, safety systems, vision, and precision metrology tools.

  • Experience with requirements‑driven engineering, traceability, and validation processes.

  • Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic schematics.

  • Familiarity with secure or controlled manufacturing environments and cybersecurity protocols.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience in ITAR, classified, or export-controlled environments.

  • Knowledge of MIL‑STD documentation, reliability frameworks, and defense QA.

  • Experience with NDI automation technologies.

  • Background in aerospace, munitions, composites, or precision machining.

  • Understanding of digital thread, MES/CMM integration, and traceability frameworks.
